A T-Rex in your living room? With the new dinosaurs in augmented reality, it is possible.
Ironically, first came the animals, and then the dinosaurs. Google has renewed its popular augmented reality tool that allows see 3D objects in the “real world” thanks to our mobile camera, to go back millions of years ago and bring back the dinosaurs.
Thus, now it is not only possible see animals, astronomical elements and many other objects included in the Google search engine; the possibility of visualize dinosaurs at real scale anywhere, using only the camera of our mobile compatible with Google’s augmented reality.
3D dinosaurs: so you can see them with your mobile and Google’s augmented reality
As the company announced on its blog, to bring dinosaurs to the real world through augmented reality, they have collaborated with Universal Brand Develompent, Ludia and Amblin Entertainment. In this way, they have been able to bring to life ten of the dinosaurs from the Jurassic World movie franchise. The creatures that will be possible to visualize in 3D are the following:
The steps to visualize one of these dinosaurs through Google’s augmented reality are the same as those that had to be followed to see animals and other 3D elements:
Open the Google search engine or any web browser of your choice and enter the name of one of the dinosaurs, or search for “dinosaurs”.
In the search result, tap on the “View in 3D” button.
Calibrate the camera by moving the device from side to side and aiming at the ground.
Now, you can already see the dinosaur, take photos and even record videos.
Google indicates that, thanks to Ludia’s modeling technology – the company behind Jurassic World Alive – the dinosaurs available for 3D viewing are among the most realistic dinosaurs ever created in such an experience. As a novelty, in addition, a technology of auto scaling on Android, which calculates the distance between our device and the surface on which the dinosaur will appear to automatically adjust its size. In this way, it is possible to view the creatures at real scale. To make matters worse, too make realistic sounds both roars and footsteps.
“To create the dinosaurs in 3D, our concept artists first did preliminary research to discover information about each creature. Not only did we conduct research on various forms of literature, our artists also worked with paleontologists and the ‘Jurassic World’ team to make the assets as accurate and realistic as possible. Even the smallest details, such as skin color irregularities and patterns, are important. ”
Furthermore, in the same way as with other 3D objects, it will be possible rotate, move or change the dimensions of the dinosaurs to better fit the space in which we find ourselves. Also, since Google’s augmented reality is capable of detecting objects in the environment, we will be able to take photos below or next to the dinosaurs.
