With chipmaker Qualcomm announcing it will expand 5G support to mid-range phones, the adoption of this technology appears to be advancing steadily. Although it lacks enough way to go to be as ubiquitous as the 4G network, many manufacturers are joining. The biggest blows have been given by Samsung with the premium Galaxy S20 and its mid-range family Galaxy A, but Huawei is not far behind, adding all the devices in the P40 range to this technology. Do you want to know the 5G phones that are for sale and the plans of the different companies? As you will see, 2020 is looming intense in terms of 5G.

There is practically no doubt that Apple will work with 5G; the only question is when? Right now, rumors indicate that the Cupertino giant’s first iPhone 5G will arrive in 2020. Are you surprised? Well, you shouldn’t. Apple often takes time to adopt certain technologies – just remember how long it took to adopt wireless charging and water resistance. This is not because Apple is lazy, far from it. Apple will likely only include the standard once it’s certain it works well and won’t be a problem. And being in a dominant position in the market, you can afford to wait.

There have been no rumors from Google about a 5G update for its Pixel models, but it’s still early days. Although Google has already officially released the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL, it has not issued any announcements about 5G. However, this phone has Snapdragon 855, a chip “suspected” of supporting 5G connections. If true, this could be a great way to enter the 5G market for anyone who doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on a 5G flagship phone.

HMD Global (Nokia)
HMD Global finally unveiled the Nokia 8.3 5G, its first 5G-enabled phone. We had been expecting this phone for a while now, so it was inevitable that it would arrive in time. Nokia has been very active in 5G infrastructure and participated in 5G networks for the 2020 Olympics. In July 2018, T-Mobile also announced that it was working with this company to build a US 5G network. Nokia could also earn $ 3.50 for each 5G phone, thanks to its work on the standard.

Due to Android licensing issues affecting Huawei and Honor, the launch of Honor’s first 5G phone, the Honor V30 5G (also known as Honor View 30 5G), went unnoticed in the US. Still, it exists, opening the 5G floodgates for Huawei’s sister company. Are we likely to see more Honor phones with 5G? Absolutely. It seems certain that the Honor 30S will arrive with 5G after the President of Honor, George Zhao, was photographed on social media with him.

Despite the rumors that we would see an HTC 5G smartphone in the second half of 2019, this did not finally happen. The new reports suggest that an HTC 5G phone will arrive during 2020. However, considering HTC’s terrible 2019, we would not be surprised if it was delayed again.
Although we haven’t seen an HTC 5G phone yet, it has released a 5G hub that your phone can use to connect to a 5G network.
Huawei has made no secret of its ambitions for 5G, and first spoke about a phone with 5G support in February 2018. Back then, 2019 was the target launch date, and Huawei hit it with the launch of the amazing foldable device. Huawei Mate X. Since then, it launched the Huawei MatePad Pro 5G, the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G and the P40 series, in addition to the P40 Lite.
With the Kirin 820 5G chip posting incredible benchmarks and Huawei in charge of building a large chunk of the UK’s 5G network, the future 5G looks bright for the Chinese company.

LG teamed up with Sprint to deliver the LG V50 ThinQ in early 2019, making it one of the first 5G devices to hit the market. In fact, LG was so keen to break into the 5G trend that it brought out the V50 ThinQ much sooner than expected, unveiling the phone on June 20, 2019. LG gave 5G a break with LG G8 ThinQ, and apparently turned it a staple for the V series, adding 5G to the dual-screen LG V60 ThinQ.

Motorola is in a unique position on this list, not only because it has released multiple 5G phones, but it is also updating previous phones with 5G connectivity through a special Moto Mod. The Moto Z4 and Moto Z3 use Motorola’s Moto Mod accessory to add an accessory to the back of the phone, allowing them to access 5G networks. The Moto Z2 Force, a flagship from 2017, will also have access to 5G through the mod after its Android 9 update, though only Verizon models will get that update.
The 5G Moto Mod was not ready for launch before, but is finally available for Verizon, as it was released to coincide with the start of Verizon’s 5G network networks.
But don’t expect Motorola to slow down just because it’s taken the lead. In 2020 it will seek to offer other phones with 5G and the first on the list is the Motorola Edge Plus. The president of the firm, Sergio Berniac, stated that the next flagship device will have the fastest 5G connection on the market. However, due to MWC’s cancellation, Motorola appears to have slowed down its release schedule.

OnePlus hasn’t gone crazy with 5G releases, but it jumped on the bandwagon early with the OnePlus 7 Pro. The OnePlus 7T Pro was second. In April 2020 it brought more 5G connectivity, with the OnePlus 8 Pro 5G and One Plus 8 5G, the new members of the Chinese manufacturer’s family.

Despite being the first to access a 5G network, Oppo didn’t really capitalize on this milestone with more devices. But that doesn’t mean you haven’t done anything, and there are now several Oppo 5G devices available. The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom 5G was the first and was launched in the UK in June 2019. Since then, we’ve seen the Reno 3 Pro 5G in China only, and the impressive Find X2 Pro as well.

Although this is a relatively new company, Realme has even excelled in providing powerful phones at reasonable prices and this philosophy has been extended to its first 5G phone. The Realme X50 Pro 5G is a top notch device with a powerful camera, starting at just $ 650, making it one of the cheapest ways to access 5G.

Samsung is the world’s largest mobile phone maker, so it would be absurd if it wasn’t in the 5G car. Even though the S10 was not Samsung’s first 5G device in early 2019, the Galaxy S10 5G was the pioneer, followed by the Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G. The Galaxy Fold, the manufacturer’s first foldable device, also supports this technology. As expected, the Galaxy S20 range arrived well-equipped: the S20 Plus and S20 Ultra have 5G-enabled models.
Samsung announced a new approach to its mid-range phones in 2018, and has underlined it with the introduction of a 5G version of the Galaxy A90. Although it’s cheaper than Samsung’s more expensive flagships, it costs around $ 800, making it difficult to call it affordable. However, in April 2020 the Galaxy A71 and A51 fully entered to compete in this segment.

While we didn’t see a Sony 5G phone in 2019, 2020 came with the reveal of the Sony Xperia 1 II, the manufacturer’s first 5G phone. Although it was to be announced at the failed MWC 2020, Sony’s flagship phone has an upgraded camera, the Snapdragon 865, and a huge CinemaWide OLED display.
Will there be more Sony 5G phones? Sony is on Qualcomm’s 5G partner list, so it stands to reason that we will see more Sony 5G-capable phones during 2020.

Chinese giant Xiaomi put its cards on the table before most, announcing that a 5G-capable model of its Mi Mix 3 was on the way. Xiaomi arrived at MWC 2019 to present the phone, becoming one of the first companies to launch a 5G phone. Since then, it has unveiled a modest Xiaomi Mi 10 and the prototype, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha.

ZTE’s first 5G phone arrived in early 2019, when the Axon 10 Pro 5G launched in Europe and China. ZTE had no major moves for the rest of 2019, but it roared again in 2020 with the ZTE Axon 10s Pro. Like most other phone brands, 5G devices are high-end and come with the best specs. ZTE sub-brand Nubia also announced a 5G phone: the Nubia X.
